
Government declares September 12th a public holiday
September 10, 2016African employers have been asked seize the opportunity presented by the Sustainable Development Goals to play an integral role in the advancement of the continent. Speaking at a regional workshop for Employer’s Organizations, Business Africa Secretary General Jacqueline Mugo challenged Employers’ Organizations to continue strengthening their capacities to achieve this aspiration.
“Many stakeholders want to engage with employers. Employers’ Organizations must work to be truly representative voice of their key concerns,” Ms. Mugo said.
Ms. Mugo added that Business Africa has continued to rise and champion the course of its members across the continent of Africa. This included representation at high level for a in which issues critical to employers such as SDGs, employment, skills and business climate were key topics.
The workshop was held in Nairobi and sought to impart skills and experiences on how to build effective Employers’ Organizations. It was sponsored by the ILO Regional Office for Africa.
Speaking at the workshop, Senior Specialist, Employers’ Activities at ILO Hezron Njuguna challenged the organizations to consistently pull resources to grow and serve their members better. He added that Governments look up to Employers’ Organizations for information and partnerships.
The workshop was attended by representatives from Employers’ Organizations in 11 countries across Africa.
